Cat Cora's Ice Cream Sundaes

Another ice cream post? Do I dare? You bet.

You know what would be really cool? If I could open up my own ice cream shopp(e?), and have like, 50 different flavors. I would do Vanilla for Sue, Texas Praline-Pecan for Anj, Double Chocolate-Chip for Tracy, Peanut Butter-Toffee for Anna, Low-Fat Fig for Annie, Banana-Peanut Butter for Jenny, Red Bean for Heather, Apricot for Catherine, Lemon Meringue for Deborah, Sticky Toffee Pudding for Jenn, Orange and Marcona for Núria, Soy for Val, Apple Pie for Mallow, Coke for Rachel, Cabernet for Valli, Coconut for Cynthia, and something really, really, strong for Amy. That's only 17 flavors, but I'm tired.
What's your favorite ice cream?

I asked my dad what he wanted for his birthday dessert. He said he would think about it. Later on in the day, he started talking about an ice cream sundae that Cat Cora made on some show. I think it might have been the Today Show, but I don't know. Are you familiar with Cat Cora? She's the hot woman chef on Iron Chef America, as well as the Executive Chef of Bon Appétit magazine. She's Greek, but she's from Mississippi. Hey look! She has her own blog, too.

Dad said that she poured amaretto and espresso in a sundae glass, placed a couple of scoops of homemade coffee ice cream on top, followed by toasted hazelnuts, chocolate ganache, and whipped cream. I took this as a sign that Cat's sundae was his dessert of choice.
I seached the internet for Cat Cora Sundae, and sure enough, I found the recipe. It's called Affogato.

These were really, really, good. I loved the homemade coffee-infused ice cream. The amaretto, espresso, and ganache, were equally delicious. We don't have hazelnuts here, so I used toasted almonds and pistachios. That's the only change I made with the recipe. Oh wait. Heh, heh. I used half-and-half, instead of milk.

Sorry the picture isn't great, but when it's somebody's birthday, it's hard to schedule in a photo shoot of the dessert.
Guess what? I made a little movie of me making a sundae. I'm having trouble uploading it, though. I'll keep trying, but I don't have much hope.

Oh wow, an ice cream named for me! Coming from 'Blue Bell' country where they 'eat all they can and sell the rest', I can say I think you could give them a run for their money. What a nice birthday treat for your dad. Sounds like a delicious combination. Hope we get to see "Ice Cream - The Movie"!

All the flavours of ice cream sound "excellent dude". I wonder what Cabernet ice cream would taste like????? Maybe I will have to give it a go. What flavour of ice cream would be yours?

There ain't no picture there. But I can't believe a picture could look as good as it sounds.

I don't ONLY like vanilla, I just believe that's the best way to taste the quality of a given ice cream.

Cat Cora is cool and so are you.

I love Affogato. This version sounds really tasty. I'm excited to go out and buy my KA ice cream maker attachment so I can start playing with ice creams as well. I'll have to keep this in mind when I do!

That sounds totally delightful, Emiline! I would so go for that right now - breakfast of champions be damned!

No way, I told my sister she needed to move up here with me and we'd open an ice cream shop that makes to-order ice cream sandwiches! We'd make a variety of cookies, and have a variety of ice creams, with different toppings. So you could come in and order mint chocolate chip sandwiched between two double chocolate cookies, with sprinkles and crushed walnuts coating the exposed ice cream sides.

She expressed only a passing interest, so if you want I'll let you in on the deal!

I don't like coffee flavoured things yet my mouth is still watering . . . Go figure.

AHHH!! My stupid pictures never work. I always have to upload them twice.

Anj- I like Blue Bell. I'm working on the movie.

Valli-Cabernet will be swirls of vanilla and reduced cabernet sauvignon. That doesn't sound very good.
Mine would be double espresso brownie batter.

Deborah- I'm trying!

Sue- I don't know, I guess I thought you really liked vanilla.

Sarah- Oh, Affogato is amazing!

Patricia- DONE!

Jenn- No problem. I need to pimp up my Foodbuzz page a bit.

Heather- You're welcome! Yeah, you seem to like Asian food.

Amy- That sounds like a good idea. Maybe it could be a chain?
What would you call it?
Amy's Alaskan Sammies?

Emiline, You know me too well. Low-fat fig sounds great, but maybe add in some dark chocolate chunks!

The ice cream looks and sounds fantastic. I wish I could try some.

Thanks for the link ;)

I like just plain vanilla ice cream. Ciao Bella has an unbellievable blackberry cabernet sorbet. Maybe I should try making that...

This sundae looks fantastic!

Oh my. I love your idea! Can I can scoop ice cream? I'll work for free ice cream, ok? What a lucky Dad! Cat Cora is one of my favorites...she doesn't get all cutesy and tv-ish, but just cooks the pants off just about anybody.

Hurry and get that video uploaded!
