That looks sensational Emiline! Well done! I love the flavours of blackberry and lemon...nice touch and decorations! And wish your mum a very happy birthday!
Such a stunning Cake Emiline. I really need to try it again using a different flour. Happy BDAY to mum!
oh you definitely put us into coma with this birthday cake!! lemon with blackberry sounds heaven!! i love the way you decorated the cake too, soo feminine! just love it!! happy birthday to your mom!!
Ahahahahah, I love the Cousin Itt reference...a fave show (Addams Family) as a kid.I bet you watch Ace of Cakes eh Emi? Woth pieces like this, and hair like that...Rapunzel's Sugar Plum Delights can't be too far off!
#1: You can sure as hell bake better than me! This looks beautiful and, based on this, you should most def. get on the culinary tract (and i'm a friggin' career counselor, ok?)#2: f&ck the faux-hawk... i like hair in my food. don't give it up - they'll make you fit it into one of those awesome hairnets anyways, right?
this was your first go at fondant? you are a rock star. :)the cake looks fabulous, inside and out. a sugar-induced coma would be a small price to pay to enjoy a slab of it.
Emiline, the cake looks delicious, but you keep tempting me with all this food I shouldn't be eating, at least for a while. Hehehe.I also came to the conclusion I am going to need a crazy haircut if I want to advance in the food business. We could go to the same salon to get our hair cut. :-p
Happy birthday to your mom! I hope she is completely recovered!!! If not, the cake did make her feel better for sure♥Your cake is IMPRESIONANTE girl!!! It's perfection in cakes' world :DI think you should be celebrating non-birthday days as in Alice in Wonderland. This way, you could bake a cake per day ;-)You've got a beautiful long hair, it would be a pitty to cut it.
Aren't you a sweet daughter? This cake rocks, Emiline! Absolutely beautiful, and I love the color you chose. Feminine and delicate. And may I just say that your hair is stunningly beautiful? My hair is thing and I don't have much of it, so I keep it kind of short.
Aw, happy birthday to your 25 year old mamacita! That cake looks awesome! I wonder if it would translate well into cupcakes...?Hah- I totally thought you were being serious for a second about the hair. I was like "Hm." I'm all for chopping it off, but...not for a fauxhawk. That's just wrong. lol.
It's too bad that fondant can't taste better because it is sooo pretty. The berries and whipped icing look so delish. I think I may try this cake without the fondant... it will be ugly but I'm not opposed to ugly tastiness.
Holy crap! Your hair is STUNNING! Is it naturally curly? I'm totally jealous.Oh yeah- the cake looks graet too! : )
That looks delicious. Can you make me one for my birthday?
Beautiful Emiline! That is a great cake recipe indeed. I love the fondant on top, too cute. I should take a picture of my hair from the back, we could nearly be twins. DON'T cut it!!That fauxhawk is so sick, I don't get it, but it seems many of those manly ladies sport it on Top Chef.Happy Birthday to your mom!!
Wonderful job! And I was not as brave as you were with the fondant. I do really want to try covering a whole cake, though. And I agree - the flavor really did mellow out after a day - the piece we had left over was much better than the day of.And I think you are proving to the world that you can cook without a fauxhawk!
the cake looks adorable! Why aren't you a Daring Baker? There are just a few. ;-)I say forget the faux hawk, I hear mullets are making a comeback. heh.
That's a lot of hair! Mind you, mine's getting long too.Your cake looks so cute! I really want to learn how to do more cake decorations. I just made your carrot cake recipe. It's in the posting queue at the moment. It was really good. But I suck at making it pretty. My mom just sent me Dorie's book. Between all of the Daring Baking posts and yours, I'm feeling motivated to give some of her recipes a try. Dangerous.Happy birthday to your mom! I hope she's back to full strength.
Oh please don't get a hawk. I hate all the people on Top Chef who have them and think they're so original and daring and "out there" because of it. I may have to start the Dorie Greenspan daring bakers challengers. That book is so huge every night I see her face staring at me from the bookshelf. And your mom sounds like mine. Mine has been 47 for the past 9 years now, I think. With my next birthday she'll have had me when she's 14. She met my "dad" when she was 18, so I hope my real father's wealthy!
Emiline this looks absolutely gorgeous and you have gorgeous hair to boot.Btw I hope you don't mind but I've tagged you for a 6 word memoir, check my blog for details.Mariax
WOW- so cute. I've never used fondant before. I have a bit of a negative attitude toward this cake now... Dorie's buttercream is what sent me to the hospital on Easter night with a massive gallstone attack, so I think the next time I make this cake I'll go with another filling! Hopefully you didn't send anyone to the hospital :)
Beautiful cake! It looks soo yummy!
you do look like cousin it...Lol...I love the hair...I say do not cut it ....Love the cake...you are very talented...the school is paying off...
That cake looks amazing! Nicely decorated!
Rapunzel, Rapunzel......you can make a gorgeous cake! Happy Happy, Joy Joy to your mom!
Please dont get a faux hawk. I love your cake. You should join the DB'S.
Really adorable cake! Glad you took the plunge!
Wow, great hair. No faux-hawk for you. Lovely cake too!
I should know better than to visit your blog when I'm hungry. Man! Does that cake look wonderful and scrumptious!!!!! I just love white cake and yours looks heavenly. My mouth is watering right now.Cindy at Rosehaven Cottage
Mom's birthday is April 9th?! So is my favorite son's!!! (Actually my only son.)Happy Birthday to mom. I love it when it when my kids make cakes for me. Your mom is lucky...
Happy Birthday mom! Well, she's lucky to have a daughter like you who can cook and bake all kind of goodies. I bet it was worth going into labor when she was 3 years old... heheYou did a great job for a first timer making fondant. Are you coming to NY yet!!??
Thanks everyone-We are never full- I've dropped plenty of hair in food. I can't help it! I have so much of it.Ben- I'm on my way to Ohio.Ley- I think it would make a great cupcake. I'll have to try that.Brittany- Yes, it's curly.Jenny- I'm thinking about piercing my nose and eyebrow, and taking up smoking.TW- I'm the only one left!Psychgrad- Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you liked the carrot cake!Amy- I really like the book. You need to make something.Recipegirl- I don't blame you!Anj- Thanks! I think she had a good one.ZC-??????? It's top secret right now.
This is one stunning cake Emiline! Wishing your mum a very happy birthday :DRosie x
Emiline, PLEASE do NOT get a fauxhawk - oh and the Cousin It reference was too funny, haha! :0DOh my goodness, what an ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and lovely birthday cake for your mom - Wishing her a belated happy birthday!! :0)
Wow, that cake turned out BEAUTIFULLY! I'm in LOVE with that color purple you acheived!
May I have a slice with a flower on it, please? :)
That hair! OMG, it's everywhere! Oh, I remember that salon..."there will be blood".HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mom!!! That's funny, I'm 25 too! I had my kids when I was a glint in my Dad's eye! I hope Mom is completely and utterly healed! That cake...! My birthday is in July (did you know that most chefs are born in Cancer???), so you'll have to come home from NYC to make me one!
What a beautiful job you did with the DB cake Emiline!! I love the bit of whimsy with the flowers. I have a feeling your mom and I are the same age if it is a big one and ends in the number O. You are my daughters age after all:D
ah hah it didnt crash....that cake looks great...my sons birthday is on the 21st so I need ideas
LOL! I can totally relate to the hair; when my hair was super-long I was able to cover my face with it! It never kept me warm because I always had it in a bun, though. Whenever it comes time for culinary school, you'll do great! The cake looks beautiful and for this being your first time with fondant, I'd say you did very well. (You've inspired me to make fondant!)
mmm...great flavor combo. I like that you didn't abuse a pastry bag during the decoration process. Clean. Not too extravagant but certainly approachable. Sweet.
That's a beautiful birthday cake - along with some fabulous hair. Great fondant you came out with; I've never made any myself but it does really look like fun.
Wish your Mom a very happy birthday!! xxx This Cake look wonderful!! really lovely, and I like the other pictures!!! xx Gloria (and you have beautiful hair!!!)
What a beautiful cake. You did a marvelous job. Don't cut off that gorgeous hair!!
Wow-- looks fabulous. I really wanted to try orange and dulce de leche but ran out of time... maybe next time.Any chance you could give us all a lesson on how to frost a cake? I need remedial classes.
Wow.....I wish I had that cake for my birthday...... :)
gorgeous cake!you did a lovely job with this one. =)
Happy birthday Emiline's Mutha! Blackberry and lemon really do compliment each other perfectly. I think it's because purple and yellow are complimentary colors. It's true! I didn't make it up.
This cake is beautiful. Lucky mom.
Had to chuckle at your fauxhawk comments. What is up with those Top Chef people?? Seriously.
Elly! You have done an outstanding job! Your mom must be so proud. Hope she had a great birthday.
What a fantastic twist on the Perfect Party Cake. I love the royal purple touch. Happy birthday to your Mom!
that looks simply FANTASTIC!!! your mom would've been so happy and proud girl!:)
Purple and flowers...very cute!
Beautiful cake! I've been wanting to try that recipe (and the fondant one, too) as well.
