Greek Frozen Yogurt with Honey-Drizzled Currants

Ingredients:
24 ounces Greek yogurt
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
4 teaspoons honey, plus an additional 1 tablespoon
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
1 pint currants
Pinch of ground clove

Directions:
Combine yogurt, cream, 4 teaspoons honey, sugar and lemon zest, in an ice cream maker, and process according to manufacturer's directions. Scrape yogurt into a freezer-proof container, and freeze for 1 hour, or until ready to serve.

Divide yogurt into bowls, top with currents, and drizzle with the additional 1 tablespoon honey. Sprinkle a tiny bit of clove over the currents, if desired.

  1. Hi Em, I think maybe you missed my message last time round. I have given you an award. Stop by sometime and collect it.

  2. Hope your finger gets better soon, I cut mine pretty bad last year trying to get the pit out of an avocado. I glare at the knife that cut me every time I use it now!

I love how simple this frozen yogurt is. Those honey-drizzled currants look so pretty!

  3. Oh Em! Your poor finger! I hope it isn't still hurting you when you have to go back to the work in that 110 degree kitchen. That would just make it all the worse. You are such a trooper continuing to post such gorgeous shots. Who cares if the currants taste good... they photographed great! ;)

  4. Gosh, you present a dessert like this after hacking your finger, amazing kiddo!

I laughed myself silly at the granny and the meatball thing. I had a similar event, but I also did not stop cookin'. But then I am almost as old as your gran! The dessert is so beautiful!!!! You're right about the deceiving little cranberries...they look so sweet!!!!

  5. Ooooh! These photos certainly have the "drool-factor". Yum!

  6. The red currants look amazing but yes they are a bit too sour for me! I love greek yogurt - this sounds like a fantastic dessert. I bought some orange blossom honey at the Farmers Market last weekend, which would go well with this

  7. You poor almost fingerless girl!
Oh yes, red currants are sour little bastards, but we forgive them beacuse how cute they look!

  8. Oh, yes-that's the kind of ice cream recipe I love. No cook. Sorry about your finger. I sliced my finger once right before I had to do a TV demo for pineapple salsa. I had to hold my fingers together to keep one of them from bleeding.

  10. Those currants are cute little buggers, aren't they?

Thanks for the tip about blogrolling.com. I don't quite have it figured out yet but then again I haven't spent much time on the site yet!

  12. I know I shouldn't be laughing, because cutting your finger is not a laughing matter, but I can't help it. Just the thought of your grandma continuing on if it happened to her...

I've never had a currant, but I'll remember that they are sour!

  13. Just stumbled onto your blog! Beautiful pictures. I've never seen currants in the store here. I think I'll try your recipe with blueberries!

  15. I LOVE greek frozen yogurt- but have found that it gets really hard if it's been in the freezer after a while. I could only eat it right after churning. Did yours do that? I was considering using simple syrup rather than sugar to soften it up (and add a little booze? Booze never hurt anyone, right?), but I haven't tried it yet....

Try those red currants on crepes with a crap load of whipped cream and powdered sugar. You'll welcome the tarness.

  16. Sorry about your finger. I've done that more times than I can remember. It is funny how grandmothers just keep on cookin'. The lucky winner finds the band-aid in their food :) Just kidding.

So currants are sour? Good to know. Guess that's why they are in Ocean Spray...

  17. Emiline, I love the colors you combined here - those currants are glowing!
I hope your finger is better now, darling. I have several scars on my hands, so I hear your pain.

  18. What a gorgeous dessert! I love that you used currents too! I know I've probably already said this, but I love your new blog look!

  19. Thanks for the heads-up on the currants. They're so cute I'm always tempted to buy them, but I never know what to make with them. Now I will plan ahead for sourness.

Your dessert sounds super refreshing for a sweltering summer day. A great use of flavorful local honey, which we have in abundance around the Pac Northwest.

  23. "I'm looking forward to cooler temperatures, fall, and all the kids going back to school. Not that I don't enjoy kids, I'm just ready for vacation/tourist season to end." DAMN you took the words right out of my mouth (err, keyboard), haha :0)

That looks quite refreshing and beautiful!

  24. OOH. Sorry about your finger. I know that feeling all too well. I must cut myself at least 4-5 times a month.
Especially if I have my knives sharpened, because I forget how sharp they are until I cut myself.

Gotta love Grandma's huh??? Too funny.

I wish I had an ice cream maker, all your recipes are so tempting...

  28. Hi Em,
You know you have to raise your finger above your heart until it's completely healed...even when you're sleeping.

Greek yogurt is sooooooo good and you've just taken it one step higher. You should sneak some in if you go see Mamma Mia.

  29. Hope you finger is better. The dessert looks delicious, especially for this time of year.

  30. Lovin' the new background. I'm a little of a klutz so prone to cutting my fingers as well. Hope it's feelin' better.

I've never thought to freeze Greek yogurt...brilliant ideas spill out of ya!

  31. I love frozen yogurt made with greek yogurt. There's that special tang that is unmistakable.

  32. Yup - currants are sour. You have to get the dried sweetened ones - they're great.

    Sorry about your finger!

  34. Your frozen yougort has me beat, but here's a tip for the red currants: sugar them. You know egg white, super fine sugar, let them dry a bit and then use as a pretty garnish. Then if someone does decide to eat them, the berries won't leave them puckering for a week!
Nice dress up on the blog!

  35. Hope your finger heals and enjoy the heat. Great idea for a cooling dessert Emiline...sorry you just found out that red currants are sour.

  38. I am laughing at your currant comment. They are pretty but really tart. Kind of like raw cranberries. :)
The yogurt looks really yummy though!

  39. Thanks everyone! And thanks for the compliments on the blog look. I'll probably end up changing it again.

    Jan, got it!

Jenny, that sounds scary! Avocados are so tricky.

Cindy, I've had it wrapped in a band-aid all week. I keep bumping it, and it starts to bleed. How would you like a server with a bleeding finger and a gross band-aid?

    Prudy, that's terrible!

    Recipegirl, you're welcome.

    Deb, that's a story that I didn't make up!

Brittany, yes it did. You should get to work on this problem. :)

    Adam, gross!

Brittany, I know, I love that clip.

    Grace, ewww.

Sue, I don't know about Mama Mia. I think my sister and I might see Pineapple Express. We'll see.

  40. This looks great! I hope your finger is doing better. I accidentally stuck mine in a blender back in February - lucky I didn't lose it! Anyway, I like the addition of cloves here.
