Ultimate Recipe Showdown

video
It's time for my big news! Finally, after many long months, I'm able to tell you my surprise....

Remember when I visited New York City a couple of months ago? I said I was on vacation, but I was actually there filming for a Food Network show called Ultimate Recipe Showdown. Some of you have probably seen it before; it's a cooking competition hosted by Guy Fieri. I watched every single episode of the first season, so I knew that I wanted to be on the second season of the show.

I entered about a dozen recipes into the contest, but didn't really expect to hear anything back. I was blown away when Food Network contacted me a couple of months ago, and told me I had made the first cut. Several cuts later, I was selected as one of the four finalists to compete on the Comfort Foods show. Out of 12,000 entries.

There were six shows filmed, with four competitors each, and each show has a different theme. My Comfort Foods show is the premiere episode, and it airs Sunday, January 4th at 9pm/8c. On the show I cook against three other people for a prize of $25,000. There are two rounds in the show: the signature round where we make our signature recipe, and the speed round, where we have to cook a dish in thirty minutes.

You'll have to tune in THIS SUNDAY to see if I win the $25,000 to go to culinary school in New York City. On the show you'll get to see me cook, hear my story and learn more about my life. The Food Network even came to my hometown to film! Here's a video of me on the Food Network website, by the way.

Being on the show was an experience of a lifetime. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd get to do something like this. I started cooking and watching Food Network as a teenager, so this was a dream come true! To be flown to New York City and get to visit the Food Network test kitchens.... wow!
All of the Food Network people were as nice as can be, and made me feel comfortable the whole time. Thank you so much for all your hard work.

Happy New Year everyone! I'll be back to blogging after the show airs.

  91. I was so miffed you didnt win, but this has been wonderful for you. Great exposure and the chefs were very impressed. The host was shocked that you didnt place higher. Nevertheless I am proud of you and I bet you will be getting ome calls. I wanted that sandwhich so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I don't want to be the only 'negative' voice, but you were ROBBED!! .. That was BULLSPIT!!
That was much more about what recipe they could make in bulk in a warehouse to freeze and ship out to TGI Friday's nationwide for them to reheat!! I really liked the winner and he definitely had skills but we have all seen mac & chesse with bacon a million times... It has even been on other food network challenges!!
Your sandwich was original and made my mouth water! I will be making it at home and probably use the apple/onion/ale jus and adapt it for my own ideas.
I am a long time reader who has never commented, but love your blog and I just felt like I had to say that!
Keep up the awesome work! You have the goods for sure and you inspired me with some great ideas!
    Amy

  93. Boo. Your dishes looked incredible - both of them. Butternut squash hidden in the cheesy pasta - fabulous for my kids! The judges were supportive - saying they looked forward to seeing good things from you. You are going to make it to culinary school!

BTW, we were putting the children to bed Sunday night and I was all frazzled. Then my husband said, "You'd better hurry. Your girl is almost on." I'd mentioned it to him in passing, and he was worried we would miss it! He also said that hopefully they didn't put the guy's picture on the menu with his item. He said you were way cuter.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Both of your dishes looked great! Good job! Best of luck on your culinary adventures. There are other competitions.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ok, so I watched the show last night and you did AWESOME! Your pastrami sandwich looked SO good! And you're so funny, how you said that Guy's hair scared you. :) I was rooting for you the whole time and I kept telling my hubby, "I read her blog!" That was so awesome how the judges were saying that you were going to be a great chef someday! I'm so excited for you. Congrats on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  96. OK, I meant to set my DVR to record the show and I forgot. Are they going to air the show again at another time, they usually do. And it sounds like you did well from the other comments, so is it a series, is there another episode? I need an update.

    ReplyDelete
