At Last

I received a very special present on Valentine's Day... but I bought it for myself. Isn't it handsome??
I'm in love...

It's a KitchenAid Professional 610 Stand Mixer from Williams-Sonoma.

I know what you're thinking, you're thinking, shouldn't you be saving your money for culinary school? Why did you buy a $400 mixer?!

Well, I didn't buy the mixer using my own money. I won a gift card in a contest and used that. I've wanted one of these for a very long time. I don't use a stand mixer for my baking, I use two mixing bowls and a hand mixer from 1990. So this is a major upgrade for me.

This model has a lever to raise and lower the bowl, which is nice so I don't have to tilt the head back when I need to add ingredients. It also has a large bowl which is nice if you're wanting to make large batches of a baked good.

Now you'll be seeing me crank out more baked goods than ever. I made pizza dough the other night and the mixer worked beautifully. It didn't jump across the counter like a lot of them do.

Anyway, just thought I'd share cause I'm so proud. I'm a little teary right now.
Heh, not really.

  1. ha ha! love that music! perfect!

I wanted to buy the 620 so badly, but I really want the top to lift not the bowl.

Let me know how you like it before I buy one.
Have fun! I know how exciting this must be.

  19. I'll be curious to read what you think about it. I upgraded a couple of years ago and to be honest, I miss my old smaller version. I don't like that the bowl lifts up and down and I just don't think it works as well. I'm thinking of buying a Viking next!

  20. Sweet purchase! I just have the regular ol' KA mixer, but I'm in love with it. I can't imagine what I'd do with this fancy guy :)

  22. How beautiful! Congrats on your new acquisition!

My mom sent me my stand mixer (a KA Artisan) before Christmas--neither of us can believe I thought my KA hand mixer would suffice between visits home. (I moved from Ohio to British Columbia.)

I hope my mixer lasts as long as hers did! She got one for her wedding (1974), and it died a few years ago, in theory, because:

    a. It was Thanksgiving and she was just about to make her mashed (whipped) poatoes and

    b. I complimented her patience waiting for her mixer to die so she could get a professional model.

No kidding--she gave me a scathing looks, said, "I can't believe you just said that," and turned on the mixer to find that only the first two speeds worked. She had just used it half an hour before to make the Parkerhouse rolls dough.

Oh well. My dad ventured out on Black Friday to get her a new one, and got a good deal on it. The only glitch in that plan is that Mom wanted a red one, but they didn't make red ones that year.

  23. Oh, Emily, I am so excited for you! You deserve it with all the yummy treats you already churn out. I must admit to being slightly jealous, as I've been pining away for a Kitchenaid for quite sometime. Perhaps you've given me the motivation I need to reward myself with this beauty. Can't wait to see what happens when you go into baker-overdrive!!

  24. Awww, it's beautiful! Have you picked out a name for him/her? :-)

  25. It IS beautiful! :) With me and my Kitchenaid, it was love at first sight; that is, when I saw the awesome deal I was getting, I couldn't say no haha! I also suggest getting the pasta roller attachment - it really takes a lot of the work out of homemade pasta.

    Congratulations on your awesome purchase!

  27. It's gorgeous! Congrats :) I usually keep my comp on mute and when I saw the title of your post I started singing "At Last" to myself. Then I read someone's comment that said they loved the music, so I listened to it and it was the song I was singing! Ha.

  28. I lucked-out recently and found a floor model Prof 600 on clearance at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was missing some attachments and a rubber foot, but I got it for $175. I have since ordered the flat beater and foot, and it works awesome. Plus my girlfriend's sister was thrilled when I gave her my trusty but old 4.5 qt Classic.

  29. What a mixer! Congratulations on your upgrade. (I like a stand mixer but sometimes I just want to crank it out myself with that little hand mixer.)

  40. so i noticed that you referred to your new acquisition as "it." clearly, you need to decide if it's male or female and name it appropriately. :)

happy valentines to you, and congrats!! and, you gotta love ella :)

  43. Lucky you! Enjoy....I still use a hand mixer but I AM going to get one like yours one of these days!!!

  44. I see you went for the next model up! So did I... nobody needs a mixer this powerful unless they are seriously serious about cooking! It took a bit for me to get used to it, but the power, the attachments available, and the quality have all really impressed me! Makes bread dough perfectly. Grinder attachment makes ground meat like you can't buy from the store... etc....

  45. And a very handsome guy it is!
Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be very happy together.

    I call mine 'white lightnin'

It even has a sticker that I made out of masking tape with a totally bitchin sharpee lightning bolt.

Enjoy the freedom of being able to cream butter AND blogsurf.

  55. Oh the joys of Kitchen Aid! Wish I had one too, because my little mixer is on the verge of a serious meltdown every time I try to make bread dough. The poor little motor just can't take the strain! Have lots of fun mixing with your new KA - I'm looking forward to reading some of the resulting recipes that you come up with ;)
