Ultimate Recipe Showdown - Part Two - The Return

R emember back in September when my mom and I randomly decided to go to New York City? All of a sudden it was like SURPRISE! We're going to New York City this week!

Weren't you a tad bit suspicious about what we were up to? At that time I wasn't able to tell you all what I was really doing in New York. I flew to New York, and took my mom with me, to film the third season of "Ultimate Recipe Showdown" on Food Network.

As you know, I was on the second season of Ultimate Recipe Showdown, and came close to winning the 25K. This year I decided to enter again and created about a dozen more recipes and submitted them on Food Network.com. A few months later I got the call back that one of my recipes had been selected. After a few more rounds of the selection process I was chosen to compete against three other cooks in the "Comfort Foods" category. Which ironically was the same category I competed in last year. It's also ironic that I have a baking blog and not a comfort foods blog. :)

I can't believe my luck. I'm so very grateful. I can't believe I was lucky enough to compete on the show again. I don't know what the odds are of going on again, but they're pretty slim. Thank you, Food Network! You wouldn't believe how many nice, friendly people work at Food Network. They're all incredible and I'm thankful I got to meet and work with them again.

Filming the show was so much fun and I can't wait to watch it. Would you like to watch it, too?

The season premiere (my episode) of Ultimate Recipe Showdown airs THIS Sunday, March 14th, at 9pm/8c on Food Network.

My competition?

-Gail Churinetz's Crawfish and Andouille Sausage Pizza.

-Riccardo Costa's Escaped Birds.

-Kimberly Zeidner's Ultimate Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte.

I will be making Buffalo Chicken Macaroni and Cheese as my signature recipe, and Creamy Pumpkin Soup with Toasted Hazelnut Frico as my speed-round recipe.

Tune in to see if I take home the $25,000 prize!

  6. This is so fantastic, something tells me you did? I don't know, I have this feeling that moving out has something to do with a win? I am so watching this! I want to try to make it as well.

I have a question. I still haven't received my Pom apron and I was sort of bummed and disappointed in my California Pom! Do you think it would be a good idea for me to call. What do you think?

  31. Congrats on getting back to NYC and into the fray of the competition again - what fun! I don't think you need your own show, though like Marla suggests... What I think you need to do is create your own show as a "regular Internet cooking show" that airs on youtube or something similar. You could start by advertising the show on your blog, then elsewhere as it grows. And who knows what may develop... Remember the Internet is a global deal... That's my 2 cents worth, and you may keep the change... LOL... Best of luck on the show Sunday.

Maybe you didn't win but maybe next time, girl!!

Why??? Because your recipes rock & they are so different!!

Your own recipes never fail me!!

  56. Emily, you did fantastic! You are so young and to compete in something like this and come so close is amazing. My husband and I were both hoping so badly you would win because you truly deserve it and I know how bad you wanted the money for culinary school. You had me just about in tears too....You will get there Emily, I just know it!

  57. I was flipping through stations last night and did a double take!! I was like wait a minute... I know that girl!! LOL :D

  59. You did a wonderful job, and I can't believe you didn't win! We thought the same thing last year, too!

Hold on to your dream - you WILL make it to culinary school and once you do, you will be beyond amazing if you can do this well without culinary school!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Rudy and I thought for sure you'd win when we heard all three judges' sincere compliments on your Creamy Pumpkin Soup. We were stunned when your score was only 91and Gail won. You deserve a big hug; we are proud to know you! The judges were so encouraging and obviously are convinced of your talent and skill. Please don't give up on your culinary school dream. You will go far as a chef.

  61. I'm really sorry you didn't win Emily but you should still be very proud of making it as far as you did! I am a certified KCBS judge and not only judge BBQ but have judged a couple of food contests as well. If you or Eric would care to email me at csburney3@yahoo.com I would like to offer a couple of things I noticed watching the show. You will be a winner one day and you will make to culinary school. Heck just making it that far is quite an honor!!

  64. Emily I just watched the Showdown & I'm sorry you didn't win. You are an amazing and talented girl. Don't give up on your culinary dreams. Keep on cooking! Remember "third times the charm"!

    ReplyDelete
  65. i watched!!! you are amazing emily, so talented ;) i hope you aren't deterred by not winning this competition, only more determined. you are already doing great things, girl, keep reaching for the stars!!!

(ps- i know its not ideal, but what about a student loan to get through culinary school? that's how i did it! well, college, not culinary school. if only i had realized i liked cooking so much sooner ;))

    ReplyDelete
  66. I loved watching the show last night. And don't let not winning get you down b/c you are awesome. I totally know how you feel though about having a dream be on hold. I'm dealing with a very similar situation right now :)

  67. Emily, I just watched the show (we recorded last night), and I was struck by how supportive the judges were--they really seem to be pulling for you. If I had Food Network judges pulling for me, I'd feel pretty good. :)

I felt for you--your emotions reflected not only your passion, your desire to pursue your dream, and your need to express your marvelous creativity, but also your sweetness and vulnerability.

This is a grandma-type of thing to say (well, I am a grandma), but your journey has just begun. Believe in yourself, because so many of us do.

  68. Darn. I missed it!

  71. I knew it! Your comment in the first URS showdown about Michael Psilakis (sp?) was hilarious!!! I was really hoping you'd win...

I hope you'll continue appearing on that show and win the grand prize- you deserve it, in my opinion(:

    ReplyDelete
  72. I watched and you're food looked great!
Have you considered getting a student loan to go to Culinary School? Or what about applying for scholarships? I know several people who do it, and it seems like you would be ideal for it!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh, I didn't get to see you! Maybe they'll show a rerun and I will notice when it comes on. Sounds so awesome. So sorry you didn't win and that some people were rude in the comments. You still inspire TONS of us with your great creations. :)
