I actually like Tofurky. But I eat tofu and faux meal products sometimes.
I've been looking for dark Karo syrup for a week now. Who knew you had to buy this stuff a month in advance? I was foolish to think I could buy it a week before Thanksgiving. I've been to four different grocery stores and they've all been wiped out.
It's really starting to make me mad. I had to buy light corn syrup... ugh. I always thought light corn syrup was more popular than dark. I thought wrong. So my pecan pie will be without dark Karo this year. Sigh. This is going to be the WORST Thanksgiving ever!
I'm only kidding, of course.
Thanksgiving isn't about Karo corn syrup, pecan pie, the mashed potatoes or cranberry sauce.
It's about giving thanks. Yes!

Giving thanks to your wonderful mother who made mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie. (No cranberry salad this year, though. Cranberry salad is whipped cream, cranberries, sugar, pineapple, pecans, and mini marshmallows, and yes, it gives you the diabetes.)
Giving thanks to your dad who made a turkey and a ham. (Oh dear lord, haaam!) I get weird cravings for ham sometimes. And goat cheese.
Giving thanks to your sweet sisters who are always there for you.
Giving thanks to your sweet, perfect boyfriend.
This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for many things. I'm thankful for my wonderful family, new friends and old friends, my family and friends' health, my own good health, a place to live, a car that runs, food on the table, and a new job I love.
And eggnog, yoga pants, and Honey Bunches of Oats.
I'm thankful for all of you! Thank you for being you! Thanks for stopping by and reading every day! Or maybe you don't, which I competely understand, because wasn't this post kind of a waste of your time?
What are you thankful for??
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! Be safe and don't drink too much Beaujolais Nouveau.

Those cartoons are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteYOu have kind of freaked me out. I am making a pecan pie and now I am not sure what type of syrup I have!!!
Seems like you have the perfect excuse to try out pecan pie made with maple syrup. Head and shoulders above in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteGreat post :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I am thankful to have 'met' you! And I would gladly share my dark karo syrup with you any day!
Of course I come by and read every day. Your blog is like crack - like chocolate and bacon - totally the opposite of tofurkey or anything made with tofu :-). In fact, I'm very thankful for your blog because if I'm stuck for an idea for a dessert recipe, I know I can come here and find a good one!
ReplyDeleteI always see more red label than blue label on the shelves, but I always assumed people bought more light than dark too. Good luck!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm thankful for YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteI had the same dark syrup dilemma and I was resigned to using half a bottle from last year mixed with light corn syrup and then I found some! Couldn't you sneak in a bit of maple syrup as a substitute to help with the color? Or there's always Gravy Master!
You are hilarious! I'm thankful that out of the 4 pies I'm baking, none of them are Pecan Pie. ;) Have a great Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for your blog and yes, some of us stop by and read every day.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't necessarily easier to find, but sorghum is a great substitute for the Karo (dark or light). It has beautiful color and a great flavor.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Emily! :)
ReplyDeleteTry some Lyle's Golden Syrup or Treacle instead of Karo Dark...does the trick. And soooo much more delicious when it comes to licking the spoon :)
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for your sweet and wonderful personality. It's been a pleasure reading your blog.It always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteUm NO reading this post was NOT a waste of time! It was awesome. I've actually never seen dark karo syrup in the supermarket, only light, even on the off season. Maybe it's just super hard to find?
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for you chica!
I'm thankful for your sweet potato pie! It was a hit last year and I just prepped one for tomorrow. Delish! I used candied pecans in the crust this time and I fell in crazy love.
ReplyDeleteI never saw dark corn syrup till I moved to BC. Always used light in the US (Ohio), but dark corn syrup just has a little molasses in it, so if you're not going to use maple syrup instead (which sounds delish), just add a bit of molasses to the light corn syrup.
ReplyDeleteA waste of time?? You have to be kidding! It's always worth reading your stuff and today I got a good chuckle into the bargain! Since our Thanksgiving was over about six weeks ago, I'm not in a panic now about syrup or anything else. I send my sympathy though!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone makes it through in one piece.
I would never say your posts are a waste of time. I have been reading your blog constantly since I happened to stumble on it about a year ago. I only get a chance to read it about once a week, so i am excited when i have several posts to go through. I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI think I only use light corn syrup. Is that bad? Like Wonder Bread? I do have molasses in the cupboard, though. That might make up for it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for many things, one is having had the chance to meet you and now follow your blog. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving with your family. Your posts are never a waste of time. Even more when you are being thankful for what you have. We all need to stop and think about this. I won't bore you with what I am thankful for, if you want to you can hop on over to my place.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving! Have a great weekend :-)
ReplyDeletehahahah!!! i made that cranberry salad!! ALWAYS make it---me and kyle eat it--no pecans tho!!
ReplyDeletewe should re-naame it "diabetic cranberry salad"
lmao!!!!
Thanks everyone! You are all too kind.
ReplyDeleteBecki, aww I bet you were fine. I'm not trying to cause Thanksgiving panic!
Erica, mmm that sounds good.
Averie, thank you! You're so sweet!
Sue, what's going on?! Why would there be no dark corn syrup out there? So strange.
Urban Wife, thank you for reading!
