Glad you liked California! You should come back to Cali sometime and see San Francisco and go to Tartine Bakery and Bi-Rite for ice cream and the ferry building- so many great places! I would be happy to show you around! :) I have to agree about Levain cookies I have a LEGAL addiction to those babies. Can't wait to try your imitation recipe!

For you to be impressed is high praise indeed. They should prominently display a copy of that post in their window.

I also love the crunchy but soft on the inside type of cookie. I often leave my walnuts whole and now I know that you would approve. Still no salt, though.
