Homemade Peanut Butter Cookies

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 cup homemade peanut butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar + 1/4 cup, divided use
1 large egg
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, using a mixer on medium speed, beat together butter, peanut butter, brown sugar and 1/3 cup granulated sugar until creamy - about 1-2 minutes.  Beat in egg, cornstarch, baking soda, salt and vanilla until well combined.  Reduce mixer speed to low and beat in flour until just combined.

Roll dough into balls.  Stir together remaining 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl.  Roll cookie balls in cinnamon-sugar.  Place on cookie sheets.  Bake 10 minutes or until golden brown.  Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool.

Makes 3 dozen cookies

  1. I actually wear a vanilla coconut perfume! It's by Lavanila and it's very mild and all natural! And ps these cookies look divine.

  2. I would soooo wear that perfume. I like the vanilla bean idea, maybe without the blood part.

  3. The texture here is awesome, my favorite candle is plain vanilla...classic

  4. "Vanilla Blood" - that made me laugh out loud and startle my dog! I've worn Creamy Coconut by Bath & Body Works for a thousand years, but you have to order it online; they don't have it in their stores.

My husband's fave cookie is peanut butter. He would be horrified if I added cinnamon, but I think they would be terrific, so I'm gonna try them. ;)

  5. I'm still trying to choose 'my' scent. All this cold weather is making me go towards vanilla and comforting scents, but I also love lemon in the summer, and coconut. And ginger. Mmm, I smell of my favourite things.
Girl, all these peanut butter recipes are destroying me! I made some of your cookies today (can't remember the exact name, they had peanut butter and chocolate). I stepped them up with some chopped pecans and a banana. The banana made them awesome and gooey!

  6. I don't usually wear perfume, but I would TOTALLY wear this! Maybe if I ate enough of them....

  8. Yum! I just posted PB cookies today, too - I forgot how tasty they are. :)

I'm with you on the baked good scents over flowers and stuff. Lately I think I'd smell like cool whip but I don't really think that smells, sooo, cookies.

  13. Great recipe, as always.

My signature scent was wet dog when I was lucky enough to have a precious pooch to share the house with. Now, I guess I'd have to say "Latte".

I have NEVER heard of anyone applying a vanilla bean directly to the skin. Too funny.

You're supposed to rinse off the vanilla bean (if you've had it in cream or milk), let it dry for a few days and then bury it in your sugar. Don't apply THAT to your wrists or you'll attract ants.

  14. I love the food scented candles! My all time favorite is Yankee Candle's Christmas Cookie which you can really only find this time of year. I also love the Apple Cider and Cinnamon Stick ones. So much better than fresh laundry smell!

  20. Mmm...cinnamon on PB cookies. Great idea.

I should ship you a Yankee Candle I have that smells of autumn spices. A little too strong for my husband, so I never burn the thing unless I'm cooking something with strong smells.

I used to wear a vanilla/sandalwood body cream that I bought at the NY Ren Faire years ago. I bought it in a ceramic jar and it lasted for YEARS. I remember a boyfriend trying to eat it. He kept smelling it on me and was like attempting to nibble the stuff off me.

I've tried using vanilla extract as perfume, but the high alcohol content meant the scent never lasted long.

I actually do wear a floral now. It's called Summer Hill by Crabtree and Evelyn. It's very light, but just utterly heavenly - a bit sweet, but not cloying. It's about as signature as I get these days.

  21. you put that cinnamon in there just for me, right? :)
maybe i'll let my vanilla beans dry out and carry them around in my purse as a weapon...

  23. I'm allergic to your cookies, but I have to tell you: CVS drugstore has this amazing coconut perfume, lotion and body spray. I hope there is a CVS near you so you can get some. My boyfriend loves coconut so I wear it all of the time. It smells so delicious--juicy, fruity, heady, tropical.

  24. These cookies look amazing! Not much beats a good peanut butter cookie :)

My signature scent is a perfume called "Pink Sugar." I bought it years ago in high school with the idea that I'd pick up guys with its sweet smell, and it actually worked! I'd walk into the room and have guys instantly ask "What smells like donuts? Cotton candy? This is amazing." I even got a 4 year relationship out of it. Highly recommended! Haha

  25. Thanks everyone!

    Angela, ohh comme onnn!

    Jenn, you can't beat that!

Linda, I didn't know that! My mom always gives some to me on Christmas. Glad I could give you a laugh!

Catherine, those cookies sound delicious! I love banana-chocolate-peanut butter together.

    Belinda, try and see...

Luv, I bet I'd like that scent. I'll have to make a trip to VS soon.

    Shannon, haha. :)

Sue, ahh I see. I used the other vanilla bean half in my sugar.
I like the smell of lattes! I'd cozy right up to you, lady.

    Noelle, mmm sounds good!

Rachel, I'm going to look for Summer Hill. We sell some CT&E at the store where I work.

    Grace, that's genious!

Nikki, I'll have to look for that!

Amanda, wooowww! That would attract the guys, wouldn't it? I used to have a cotton candy perfume back in the day.
