We’ve moved on to a new subject this week: chocolate candies!  I’m very, very excited.

We didn’t actually make any chocolate candies today, though.  We tempered chocolate, made caramelized hazelnuts, and caramelized almonds… oh and we also watched some videos on chocolate.  It was a pretty easy day.

I was in a cookie competition this weekend sponsored by Pastry Chicago.  If you live in the Chicago area you should participate in future events!  The competition was held at Whole Foods, and you had to bring in your cookies that featured California Raisins and almonds.  A few of my friends from school entered the contest too.

My friend Camille won second place!  Here we are standing with Mr. Raisin.

The first place winner was a student of the French Pastry School, too.  Twas not me, though.  Hey, I gave it my best shot!  I really liked my cookies I entered.  I might blog about them at some point.  Can you guess which ones are mine?  Can you guess which ones won?

The first place winner took home a Kitchen-Aid mixer!  The other finalists won great prizes also.  Heck, if you participate you get great prizes; my goody bag contained a mini Silpat, ice cream scoop, dough scraper, and a free class at the French Pastry School.  So I better see all of your beautiful faces at the next Pastry Chicago event.  It doesn’t cost anything to enter!

I’m planning on entering every competition because I had so much fun.  I have to start thinking about stone fruit pie ideas….

  1. I'm glad you entered. The goodie bag sounds pretty awesome too. I was going to try and guess which one you did, but I have no clue.

  5. You may not have one this contest, but I'm betting on the 31st you're going to get some good news! Love following the Pastry School adventures! I'm guessing you were contestant #13.

  6. I couldn't guess either I'm afraid. Sorry you didn't win (what's wrong with those judges?) but it looks like you had fun. Are we going to see some chocolate making posts? I both hope and dread it!
