You’re looking at the one picture I took today, and it’s a bad one, too.  Today was not one of my best days.  This week we are building chocolate showpieces.  I’m not sure how I feel about chocolate and sugar sculpture yet.  I’m not overly excited by it, and it all seems a bit daunting.  I have no experience in this whatsoever.  I think it’s important to have a good attitude, which I’m trying to have.  We had to make several parts of the sculpture today by pouring tempered chocolate into molds, rings, and domes.

I had to make four of the elements over again because I messed up.  My dome wasn’t thick enough because I poured out the chocolate too early.  My bases weren’t thick enough, either.  Then I ran out of time and didn’t get to finish my white chocolate curls.  I’m hoping tomorrow is a better day.
Now I’m thinking happy thoughts to make myself feel better.

  1. I don't get the whole chocolate and sugar sculpture thing, either! I know people can make some beautiful, amazing things, but I would rather eat my chocolate! It just seems like a waste. Don't worry, you'll get through this and move on to other excitement!

  2. The new design looks so great! Nice and clean looking.

I'm with Anna on the chocolate sculpture thing - just let me eat the chocolate, no need to make it into shapes :)

  3. Hey there's gotta be one thing you aren't "into". ;) You are obviously doing very well in everything else.

Hell on Wheels is one of my VERY FAVE shows! :)

  5. I'm not a fan of sculptures either. I'm not a fan of pretty things in general when it comes to food. I'd rather have some large ugly portions of yummy food!

  7. It's awesome that you're going out of your comfort zone and learning to do so much cool stuff. Knowing you, you'll get the hang of it in no time.
