Bread Bother

Sunday, September 1, 2019

A few things have been troubling me.  One, I hardly bake at all anymore! (insert crying face emoji) I don't feel like I have the time to enjoy the process so I just stay away.  With the exception of some cupcakes for my sister's birthday this month and an apple fritter bread, that's about all I've baked in a long time.  Fall is always a good time to bake, is it not?  Maybe I'll get back into it.  2. I don't crave sweets like I once did!  It's the craziest thing -- my whole life I've had a sweet tooth.  My breakfast was always sweet things such a cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, etc. and I almost always had dessert every night.  In the past few years I've become a savory person and hardly touch sugar, with the exception of a little Ben & Jerry's Half-Baked every now and then.  I know your taste buds change, but what a tragedy.  3. One of my new year's resolutions was to get into bread baking and that has. not. happened. at. all.  I don't see it happening since I've been pretty busy.  BUT, if I can bake one decent loaf of bread this year I will feel satisfied.  And I have four months to try.

What bread should I make?  I need suggestions!  Is there a bread recipe that you love to bake?  Is there a type of bread you love to eat?

  1. My favourite bread to make is cracked wheat bread (also known in my family as 'bum bread'); with chop/chop fruit bread a close second. Recipes and/or instructions available on request.

  2. Hi Emily! Sorry I haven't said hi in a while. How about a garlicky pumpernickel bread to have with spaghetti, lasagna, etc. Or maybe an asiago something-or-other? Not sure if that helps, but those were the first things that came to mind. Hope you are doing well!

  3. My family loves a fresh and warm french bread or baguette to go with cheese or just plain butter. The first few bites just are so satisfying after smelling the bread bake!
